Five years ago, Freya’s Laser & Body Sculpting opened its doors in Prescott with one operating rule: bring in technology that does something the previous generation could not, then learn it properly before offering it to a single client. This year, we are celebrating our anniversary in the way that feels most true to who we are—by advancing what is possible for our clients. Freya’s is proud to introduce Sciton BBL HEROic, the first pulsed-light platform in aesthetics powered by intelligent automation, bringing true full-body skin regeneration to clients throughout the Quad Cities and beyond.
It is the biggest addition we have made in five years of operation. Here is what it does, why the technology represents a real step forward rather than a refresh, and what it means for the skin on your face and everywhere else.
What is BBL HEROic?
BBL HEROic is a BroadBand Light device that sends filtered pulses of light energy into the skin to correct pigment, calm visible redness, clear active acne, reduce unwanted hair, and firm loose tissue. The name stands for High Energy Rapid Output with Intelligent Control, and the second half of that phrase is what separates it from every pulsed light device that came before.
BroadBand Light works on a principle called selective photothermolysis. When light enters the skin, structures called chromophores absorb it. Melanin absorbs one range of wavelengths, hemoglobin in blood vessels absorbs another. Those structures convert the light into controlled heat, which breaks down the pigment cluster or collapses the vessel while the surrounding tissue stays untouched.
A laser emits a single focused wavelength and does one job extremely well. BroadBand Light delivers a wide spectrum that the provider narrows using filters, which means one handpiece can address a brown spot, a broken capillary, and a patch of crepey skin in the same appointment. BBL HEROic carries nine wavelength filters that swap in seconds.
What makes HEROic the first smart pulsed light device?
Every pulsed light treatment before now depended heavily on the steadiness of the hand holding the handpiece. The provider had to judge speed and overlap by feel, pulse after pulse, across an area that might take hundreds of them. HEROic moves that judgment into the device.
Two systems make it work. The Skin Positioning System is a motion tracking sensor built into the handpiece that reads its position and orientation in real time across six axes of movement, capturing forward and backward travel, side to side travel, height, and the three rotations of roll, pitch, and yaw. Intelligent Control is the processor that receives all of that spatial data and decides where each pulse lands, adjusting automatically for how fast the provider is moving and for the curve of the body underneath.
Together they produce Autodynamic Pulsing, the first fully automated pulse delivery system in aesthetic medicine. The device fires when the geometry is right rather than when a thumb presses a button.

WHY AUTOMATED PULSE PLACEMENT MATTERS Uneven pulse placement has been the quiet limitation of pulsed light since the technology arrived. Gaps between pulses leave untreated tracks that show up as faint striping. Overlapping pulses stack energy in one spot, which is uncomfortable and raises the risk of an unwanted mark. On a face, an experienced provider can compensate. On a back or a pair of legs, where the surface curves and the treatment runs long, consistency becomes genuinely difficult. Automating placement is what made large area treatment practical. |
What changed between IPL, BBL, and HEROic?
Light based skin treatment has moved through four distinct generations, and each one solved a problem the last one left open.

What can BBL HEROic treat?
The range is unusually wide for a single handpiece, which is much of the appeal. Common concerns we address with it include:

- Facial redness, rosacea, cherry angiomas, and the small thready vessels that appear around the nose

What does full body skin regeneration actually mean?
It means the back, shoulders, chest, arms, legs, and hands are now treatable in the same appointment window that used to cover a face. BBL HEROic Body can pass over a large area such as a back or a pair of legs in as little as three minutes, and that number is the whole reason full body work has become practical rather than theoretical.
Skin below the collarbone ages the same way facial skin does. It accumulates sun damage, loses collagen, and develops the mottled pigment that reads as age from across a room. What kept it untreated was arithmetic. On older pulsed light platforms, covering a back meant an hour of careful manual passes, which pushed the price beyond what most people were willing to pay for an area they could cover with a shirt.
Speed changed that math, and automated placement made the speed safe. Clients who have spent years treating their face and then noticed the mismatch at the neckline finally have a reasonable option.

Does BBL HEROic hurt, and what is recovery like?
Most clients describe the sensation as a warm flick against the skin, similar to a rubber band snapping lightly. The handpiece carries a sapphire crystal cooled by CoolComfort technology, which chills the epidermis while letting light pass through to its target, so topical numbing is usually unnecessary. Providers will still apply it on request for sensitive areas.
Afterward, treated skin looks flushed for a few hours. Pigmented spots respond in a way that surprises first timers: they darken over the following day into fine coffee coloured flecks, rise to the surface, and flake away over roughly a week. Body areas move a little slower than the face. Redness from vascular work settles within a day or two, and there is no bandaging or interruption to normal activity.
Daily sun protection is the one non negotiable. Light based treatment clears existing pigment, and unprotected sun exposure in the weeks afterward will start rebuilding it. Most clients pair the treatment with a maintenance schedule of two to four sessions a year, which is where the cumulative benefit shows up.
Who is a good candidate for BBL HEROic?
The pigment and vascular modes are cleared for Fitzpatrick skin types I through V. SkinTyte, which works through infrared rather than through absorbed pigment, can be used across all skin types including V and VI, which makes it a useful option for deeper skin tones where light based treatment has historically been limited.
A consultation covers the details that matter. Recent sun exposure or an active tan means waiting, since a device that targets melanin cannot distinguish between a sunspot and a fresh tan. Photosensitizing medications, recent isotretinoin use, pregnancy, and a history of keloid scarring all warrant a conversation before booking.
